WHO: Electromagnetic Fields Project

The site of the World Health Organization (WHO) released a preliminary document of 37 pages, downloadable in pdf format on its Electromagnetic Fields Project. The site

microwavenews public in its home-page, a summary of the conclusions of this preliminary document.

Here:
1. WHO does not comment on the fact that electromagnetic fields they should or should not apply the precautionary principle, calling on the nation states to make their own decisions;
2. WHO does not consider that they should be placed more restrictive limits for exposure to EMF at low frequency (50/60 Hz) (despite evidence of the doubling of risk of childhood leukemia to values \u200b\u200b250 times lower than the limit defined by ' ICNIRP, ed.) This is because the limits should be based on effects conventionally regarded as established and they are not an appropriate tool to implement precautionary approaches. Therefore, WHO does not recommend to include exposure limits based on childhood leukemia as an option;
3. WHO discourages the definition for radio frequency EM fields, new exposure limits. The probability that the use of cell phones can cause illness or adverse effects is probably small and can not be completely eliminated but admits that if there was any effect, the overall burden of disease could be enormous;
4. restricts the use of mobile children is presented as a possible policy option, but its effectiveness is diminished because it is plausibly limited
5. WHO is concerned that the adoption of precautionary policy by telephone companies may seem like an admission that there is indeed a health risk;
6. WHO states that the precautionary measures taken should be applied in a manner that: a) the action to reduce, by a company, the exposure of the cell below the structure of the WHO precaution has been taken as an admission of legal responsibility for such exposure, b) the decision to reduce exposure is not taken as an evidence that such an exposure is actually dangerous.
Microwavenews notes that the WHO document does not mention the new study by the Karolinska Institute that showed a risk of developing acoustic neuroma after mobile phone use over 10 years;
From the foregoing, the WHO position seems not very encouraging.
